GALEN LEE DOUGALL

April 3, 1954 - November 11, 2023

It is with profound sadness that I announce the death of Galen, my husband of almost 51 years. On November 1, 2023, Galen was told his cancer was back and his struggle was nearing an end. He fought long and hard over the last 2 years, but lost the battle November 11, 2023. He took his last breath at home, surrounded by love, knowing our youngest son, Andy, was waiting for him when he closed his eyes for the last time.

He leaves behind his son, Shane (Kaij), grandson Tyler (Naomi), great grandson Simon, granddaughters Storrie, Grayci, Holly and Kasey. Son Jamie, Grandson Dustin. Daughter-out-law Andrea (Johnny). Brothers Nin (Helen), Marty, Lane (Faye) and sister Maggie Edwards (Don).

He also leaves behind a large extended family including sisters-in-law Deidre Barch, Mary (Jim) Ellice, and brother in law Joe (Debbie) Coverdale, many nieces and nephews and his mother in law, Pat Muldrew, whom he loved so much. Galen is also leaving many lifelong friends including Thanh Dinh, who was one of Galens best friends.

Galen worked in Marine Refrigeration and over the years forged close relationships. He also enjoyed many years of playing baseball with the Stingers.

He will also be remembered as a hard worker, always welcoming friends and family into his home and around the spit.

I can not express enough the gratitude I have for the Palliative and Hospice Care Teams. And to my penguins Kathy, Kaij and Andrea who all made it possible for Galen to stay at home until the end. They really were our angels. I would also like to thank Dr. Samcoe, Dr. Henchel and Dr. Bosma for all of their care.

There will be a celebration of Galens life, Sunday January 7, 2024, at Metchosin Golf and Country Club at 4100 Metchosin Road between 1-4pm. Please RSVP at dougallmemorial@gmail.com
