Gary passed away very peacefully Sunday morning, with his wife Anna and family members by his side. Gary was born an only child and raised in Montreal, Quebec. He lost his mother as a very young man and that set him wandering. By the time he turned 26 he had hitchhiked the full length of Canada 10 times. He spent those years moving furniture and swore it was the best education. In 1974 he arrived in Victoria met Anna, and never looked back. He loved this Island and the life it gave him. He is predeceased by his parents Helen and Gilbert and survived by his loving wife Anna, sister-in-law Maria(Kim), sister-in-law Valentine(Gary), brother-in-law Michael and his much loved nieces and nephew Sean(Karin), Erin(Jeremy), Marianne(Jeremy), Paula(Rob), Carole(Glen) and his great nieces and nephews Elizabeth, Quinn, Ben, Thomas, Justine and Victoria. Gary had a huge circle of friends. For all those who knew him they will never forget his loud hearty laughs, sense of humor or his smile. Gary loved his vehicles and changed them often. He loved to tinker with them and was always adding more lights, whether he needed them or notJ. In the last few years his health slowly deteriorated, he still held on to the joys he found in simple things and his close friends and family. Garys kind heart was always there if you needed him. He could always be counted on to meet you for coffee at Timmys just to chat. Gary will be in our hearts always. Thank you to all the professionals who looked after him during his illness and in particular the staff at Hospice Victoria. Special thanks to his best friend Dave for all his support.
There will be no service or memorial by request. Anna and the rest of the family encourage his many friends to gather at Tim Hortons and share their stories of Gary and have a good laugh over a coffee, he would have loved that.
Rest in Peace Gary Ecclesiastes 3 To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.
