Genevieve Mary Gladue ( Calliou ) 1945 - 2020 Genevieve Mary Gladue ( Calliou ) passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 after an eleven-month illness of pancreatic cancer. Genevieve was born September 14, 1945 at Sucker Creek First Nation, Alberta, Canada. She was survived by her sisters Denise ( Dickie ) and Alberta; her children, Coreen, Lorna ( John ) and Dwayne; her grandchildren, Akela, Nathan, Bradan, Miranda, Taryn, Steven, Reace, Keanu, Tahnisha and Kisik; her great grandchildren Jaxson, Noah, Terrance, Winter, Zayla, Ocean, Danica and Emmitt; and, her many aunties, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and colleagues. Genevieve was predeceased by her mother Victoria, sister Pauline and brother George. Genevieve was an Indian residential school survivor, and her life was a living example of someone prevailing in spite of experiencing such an ordeal. She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, auntie and friend. She embraced, appreciated and fondly remembered the time shared with family, relatives, friends and colleagues. She worked as a school custodian for decades, and was a dedicated and recognized community volunteer for over twenty years. She had a flair for sewing, knitting and making blankets. She loved to travel, and really enjoyed going to the Sundance at Rosebud, South Dakota to ceremony and share quality time with good friends. A private traditional Nihiyaw ceremony in memory of Genevieve Mary Gladue ( Calliou ) will be held on Thursday, January 7, 2021 at Victoria, British Columbia, with family and friends officiating the spreading of her ashes upon the ocean. In addition, a traditional ceremony will take place at the Sucker Creek First Nation's cemetery at a date and time yet to be determined. Genevieve Mary Gladue will be dearly missed and fondly remembered.
