George Easdon

March 5, 1934 — July 24, 2025

George Easdon passed away peacefully on July 24, 2025, after a brief stay at the Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria, BC. He was 91.

Born in 1934 in Havana, Cuba, to Scots George and Marion Easdon, George was the eldest of three brothers, alongside Michael and Danny (d. 1971). The family later moved to Caracas, Venezuela, where he spent his early childhood. George attended Ridley College in St. Catharines, Ontario, and completed his Bachelor of Civil Law at McGill University in 1961.

George married Barbara Emery in 1966. Together, they raised a loving family with dog Charlie Pig. They moved to Vancouver from Brantford, Ontario, in 1968 and to Victoria in 1973, before separating in 1982. They were parents to Sarah (d. 1968), Douglas (b. 1970), and Gillian (b. 1973). They became proud grandparents to Felix in 2010.

George dedicated more than 40 years to the practice of law, specializing in Wills and Estates. He founded Easdon & Associates in Victoria, BC, in 1974 and joined Horne Coupar in 2008 before retiring in 2015. He also served as a solicitor for the National Association for the Self-Employed.

A committed community leader, George was the Chair of the Salvation Army Red Shield Campaign and served on the boards of Queen Alexandra Hospital for Children, Pacific Opera Victoria, and the Victoria Foundation, where he was named an Honorary Governor. He continued to serve on the boards of the Pacific Opera Foundation and the Victoria Conservatory of Music for many years, contributing to the city’s vibrant cultural life. He was an avid tennis player for 50 years and a devotee of the Shaw and Stratford Festivals.

George was a proud member of the Union Club of British Columbia for over 50 years, cherishing decades of camaraderie, particularly during the many years he spent attending Men’s Night with JD, Mark, Rod, and crew.

He spent the last two years of his life enjoying Carlton House, playing bridge with friends and cribbage with Felix, sharing wonderful times with friends and family. George will be remembered for his dry wit, love of learning, dedication to his kids, passion for music and the arts, and lifelong commitment to community service.

George is survived by his children, Douglas (wife Heidi Ewing, m. 2007, and their dog Rico) and Gillian (son Felix, partner Christy Corbett, and dog Queso); his brother Michael; nieces, nephews, and extended family in Ontario, New Zealand, Scotland, and the USA.

A celebration of life will be held from 2-4pm at the Union Club on Saturday, October 18. In place of flowers, please donate to Victoria Foundation, a vital organization close to the family’s heart.
