George Teskey Johnson

George Teskey Johnson (Feb 21, 1926 - Dec 27, 2019) George passed away peacefully at Broadmead memorial lodge in Victoria BC at the age of 93. He was born in Calgary Alberta, grew up in Okotoks A.B. and was raised together with 4 siblings by his widowed mother, Margaret Johnson (past); the well know kindergarten teacher of Okotoks. Lynn (oldest daughter) was told at a reunion that her dad was a very good hockey player in his youth, and throughout his life he was a hardworking man and an excellent trucker. He was a strong man in many ways and was very creative and artistic, using his skills to renovate the family homes, in unique ways, and later in life to create beautiful colorful paintings. He had and extensive knowledge of the natural environment and passed his love of the outdoors on to his children. George married Gwen Hemus in 1947 and together they had 4 children: Lynn, Ann (past), Patti and Bob. The family moved to Victoria in 1965 where George joined the Coast guard working his way from Seaman to Bosun on the Camsell and later the Martha Black and other ships. He told many stories of trips on the ice breakers to places like Tuktoyaktuk and of huge rogue waves, polar bears and artic ice worms. In 1984 Gwen passed away and George retired from the Coast guard. He later married Florence Armstrong of Okotoks. Together they enjoyed retirement life; their love of gardening and spending time with family. Florence passed in 2012 and George settled full time in Victoria, living on Bob's property where he enjoyed his youngest grandson, other family, grandkids and friends as well as his large garden, chickens and coy fish. He loved his time there spending time outdoors every day. So… Dad, George, Grandpa, the Johnson's, the Armstrong's, the Hemus', and all the friends and foe; We all miss you. You left us a lot to remember you by! Interment at Royal Oak Burial Park (Family in attendance) (date to be determined). Memorial Service at later date.
