Obituary for Gordon Richard Eisenhuth
September 8, 1958, to July 5, 2025
Gordon Richard Eisenhuth was born to Johanne and Erich Eisenhuth on September 8, 1958, in Victoria, B.C. He had three sisters, Marion (Dan), Heidi and Heather (Mark). The house they lived in had only one bathroom. So, with that many girls in the house, he spent a lot of time out in the neighbourhood or playing sports. Gord grew up on Greenridge Crescent with many other families with kids. He loved to play soccer and basketball. He attended Lakehill Elementary School and Reynolds High School. His parents owned a cabin on Cowichan Lake, so he spent his summers camping and enjoying the lake activities.
Gord met his high school sweetheart, Sheri in 1976 during biology class. Starting in grade twelve, they were inseparable.
He got a job working for the Ministry of Highways in the summer of 1977. He learned the skills of a surveyor and worked on the Blanshard Street extension. When that job was completed, he was transferred to Revelstoke to work on the Mica Dam project. A few years later, he returned to Victoria due to health issues. He had emergency surgery to save his life in 1980. Thankfully, he was assigned a desk job for the Ministry of Highways once he recovered. This work was very fulfilling as he was able to use his amazing memory and gifts of reasoning to perform all the tasks required. He loved working out in the field and getting to know people all over the province.
Gord and Sheri were married on May 9th, 1981. They moved into a condominium and spent their weekends camping all over the province. Gord had a love of nature and enjoyed taking many photos of their adventures in their canoe.
Gord and Sheri moved into a house on Mapleton Place in 1987. Their daughter Kelsey was born in 1989. Kelsey was a great delight from the moment she was born. Gord adored her and purposed to be the best dad he could be. He loved taking her on daddy-daughter dates. When she was older, he signed up to coach her soccer and basketball teams.
Daniel was born in 1991. His arrival changed the dynamics of the family as he needed extra care. Gord took on another role of being Daniel’s advocate in the community. He also coached the Challenger Baseball team starting in1997. They attended drag races, car shows, Cougars Hockey games and so much more. Wonderful life-long relationships were established during those times.
Gord began attending the Church of the Nazarene with the family in 1994. His life changed significantly when he invited Jesus to be his saviour. He became the Administration and Finance Chairman for the church and served in that role for 18 years.
When Gord retired in 2013, he switched to consulting in his home office, for the government and other entities. He loved his work and all the relationships that were grown over the years.
He was a loyal son to his parents. He supported them as their health declined and took extra care of his mom after his dad passed away in 2014.
Gord had a wonderful heart for community. His favourite thing to do was to plan a meal and make it special for everyone who attended. He always went the extra mile to prepare amazing food and surprise the children with fun activities, like scavenger hunts. He was “Papa Gord” to the children.
Gord had a special place in his heart for Aaron Mauger. He became like a dad to him as he endeavoured to support him after his mom passed away. We call him our Chosen son, and his boys (Sebastian and Jack) our Chosen grandchildren.
As time went on, he adopted other wonderful people into his heart like Alfred, Rob, Kelly, Lisa, Jo, Danae and more. He loved to be a source of encouragement and support.
Gord was absolutely delighted when his granddaughter Josie was born. He loved to go over to her house at four in the morning to take care of her while Kelsey slept. It gave him so much joy to spend quiet time with her.
Gord was diagnosed with brain cancer in August of 2024. He wanted to achieve the best outcome, so he endured radiation and chemotherapy. As his health declined, he stayed strong in his determination to be a light to others. He never complained and stayed engaged with family and friends as much as he could. He handled the loss of strength and independence with incredible grace.
He will be so very deeply missed. But we have the assurance that we will see him again. The family will continue his legacy of care and hospitality in the days ahead.
Our family is so very grateful for the loving support we have received from our Church family, friends and the neighbours on Mapleton Place. This journey would have been so much more challenging without all the practical and amazing ways that people showed up to help us.
We would also like to thank our pastors (Gary, Sylvia, Reid, Ron and Logan) for their loving care during this past year.
Celebration of Life Service to be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, August 23rd at the Victoria First Church of the Nazarene, 4277 Quadra Street. Reception to follow.
