Gregory Van Wallingham
December 25, 1957 – April 28, 2025
It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Gregory
Van Wallingham, age 67, Victoria, BC.
Born and raised in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Greg ventured West at a young age after joining the
Royal Canadian Navy, eventually making Vancouver Island his home.
After his time with the RCN, Greg worked for several years in the Victoria area as a school
custodian. He eventually returned to his maritime passion to work 16 years with the Queen’s
Harbour Master (QHM/KHM) DND aboard tugboats and other harbour vessels as a Marine
Engineer, in Esquimalt, BC. His love for the ocean was evident having lived and worked on both
the Atlantic and the Pacific coasts.
Greg became an avid golfer over the years, a hobby he mastered and often followed with a BBQ
on his patio. Like his brothers, he had a love and talent for music and enjoyed strumming his
acoustic guitar. Greg will always be remembered for his natural artistic gifts, especially his
amazing drawings and sketches. A man of wit, with a quirky sense of humour and large
laughter, his kindness and generosity touched many.
Greg was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Dorcas “Dot” (nee Pearce) (2018) of Halifax, NS, and brothers, David (2018), Richard (2010), William (2004) and Gary (1971).
Greg is survived by his sisters Julie Walker (Flemming) of Halifax NS, and Donna (Craig
Archambault) of Surrey BC, his brother Robert of Beaverbank NS, and many nieces and
nephews.
Arrangements are under the care of Earth’s Option, Victoria BC. In keeping with Greg’s wishes,
there will be no visitation. A private family service to honour Greg’s life will be held at a later
date in Halifax, NS.
Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada in honour of Greg. The
family appreciates your thoughts and prayers during this time.
