Harry Carruthers passed away at the age of 88 after a brave and determined struggle with dementia. He fought like a true Scot until the end. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Heather; children, Joyce and Bob (Pat); grandchildren, Jason (Teigan), Jessica (Rocco), Jillian, Michael (Devon); great grandchildren, Nicholas, Sarah, Lily, Maisie. Harry was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Nancy; and his son, Douglas.
Born in Scotland, Harry took up the painting trade, enjoyed a soccer career and served in the Royal Air Force. He fell in love with Heather, his nurse at the time, who was tending to his soccer injury. They moved separately to Victoria in 1951 where they were married. Harry had a long career as the painting foreman for the Saanich school district. He liked sunshine, dancing, Frank Sinatra, and the Glasgow Rangers, but what Harry loved most in life was Heather. They were inseparable companions for 65 wonderful years and Heather, as usual, was at his side when he died.
We would like to express our gratitude to the staff on 4A at VGH and at Sunset Lodge for their compassion and support. A casual gathering for family and friends of Harry will be held at the Westin Bear Mountain penthouse #547, 1999 Country Club Way, on Saturday, April 15 , 2017, anytime after 4pm
