Heather Patricia Carruthers

On July 14, 2023 Heather Patricia Carruthers passed away peacefully at Ayre Manor in Sooke.

Heather was born in Samalkot, India in 1930 to Joyce and Robert Rae, who was posted there as a member of the British military. She attended boarding school as did her younger siblings, Malcolm and Alison. Heather was 17 when the family relocated to Scotland. When she was a nurse in training she had a patient, Harry, who had broken his arm in a soccer game. They had an instant attraction to each other and soon began a love story that lasted all of their lives. Heather and Harry were married in Victoria in 1951 and had 3 children…Joyce, Bob, and Doug. She was a gentle and loving mother and wife. Her dazzling smile and kind eyes reflected her beautiful soul.

After retiring from her job at the University of Victoria, Heather was able to spend more time with family. Her dinners and desserts were legendary. She enjoyed dancing, cruises, and happy times with Harry, who sadly passed away several years ago. Heather and Harry are now reunited and their love story continues.

Heather is survived by children, Joyce and Bob (Pat); grandchildren, Jason (Jackie), Jessica (Rocco), Michael (Devon), and Jillian (Sher); great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Sarah, Lily, and Margaret.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, Sept 8 at 1pm at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church on Burnside Ave.
