It is with much sadness that the family of Hilda Martin announces her passing on May 6, 2012 in her 92nd year. Hilda was predeceased by her loving husband Herman in 1982, her brother Otto and sister Helen. Survived by her sons Roy, Lloyd (Lynda), daughter Carolyn Finch (Rod), grandsons Christopher and Ryan, sister Hattie, brother Gus, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Hilda emigrated from Europe with her family to Edmonton, Alberta when she was a young child. It was there that she met Herman, and with their young son, moved to Victoria in 1946. Hilda was dedicated to her family, very active in her church, had a passion for gardening, loved cooking and baking, and creating lovely needlework. She was blessed with a very positive outlook on life - we will miss you Mum ! The family would like to thank Mum's medical team, and more recently the exceptional doctors, nurses, and volunteers at Victoria Hospice where she received the utmost care and attention. Also, our gratitude to VIHA and Beacon Community Services staff for their dedication and compassion. A special thanks to Rev. Bill Cantelon for his caring support. A service of remembrance for Hilda will be held on June 2nd at 2:00 pm at Cordova Bay United Church, 813 Claremont Ave, Victoria, B.C. In lieu of flowers, we welcome donations to: Victoria Hospice & Palliative Care Foundation, 1510 Fort Street, Victoria, BC V8S 5J2, or to the Cordova Bay United Church Memorial Fund.
