Hugh Douglas Wright

December 11, 1936 — August 5, 2022

Doug was born in Markdale, Ontario on December 11, 1936, and passed away peacefully on August 5, 2022 in Trillium Hospice in Parksville, following a valiant struggle with edema.

He was predeceased by his parents Ruby and Hugh Wright and his sister, Joyce. He is survived by his loving wife Betty (Elizabeth), his sons Graham (Andrea), Eric (Nicole), and his beloved grandchildren Grace, Alexander and Morgan. He is also survived by his younger brother, Harry (Lauretta) of Hanover, Ontario.

Doug spent most of his years of employment with Hudson’s Bay in Toronto. While living in Toronto he particularly enjoyed competitive curling, annual hunting trips with friends of many years, and making homemade wine. (Merlot)

Upon retirement in 1992, he and “Liz” moved to Victoria, B.C where he took his interest in carpentry to a whole new level. He also resumed his keen interest in curling and RV camping. He especially enjoyed his friends at Surfside RV Resort in Parksville. After a cruise to Alaska, he purchased a truck and trailer and twice revisited this new happy place. Liz happily remained at home with their dog, Tsui.

Doug was known to be a listener and problem-solver who would willingly go out of his way to help anyone in need. He was a wonderful husband, dad, and poppa, who quietly loved his family, beyond measure. He is deeply missed.

With heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Grimwood and his staff for their care and concern during the past 12 months.

There will be a service of remembrance in October in Victoria.
