Jacqueline Ann Hrebicek

HREBICEK (nee Doherty), Jacqueline Ann, BSc PT - Passed away peacefully in Victoria, B.C. on July 21, 2017. Beloved wife of Herman (deceased) and dear mother to Tania (Jim Smyrl), Olinka (Terry Murphy) and Nicholas (Jennifer Hounsell). Will be missed by grandchildren Niall, Isabel, Graham, Olivia, Nathan, Eric, James and Scarlett. Sister to Margaret Tomkins (Ireland) and to Michael Doherty (England). Jackie graduated with a Diploma in Physiotherapy from Trinity College Dublin in 1962, and later did her Degree completion at University of Toronto. She married Herman in 1965 in Ireland, subsequently moved to Strasbourg, France where all three of her children were born. The family moved to Wisconsin, U.S.A., and later to Adelaide, Australia and finally settled in Barrie, Ontario, Canada in 1978. Jackie worked as a physiotherapist in Australia, and at the time of her retirement in 1992, was the Home Care Therapy Supervisor for Simcoe County. She was instrumental in the integration of handicapped children, who had previously been institutionalized, into the public school system. She also served on the District Health Council. After Herman's death in 1998, Jackie built a new home on the shores of Georgian Bay where her children and grandchildren could gather in the summer. Jackie's interests were varied and included traveling and many outdoor activities. Other avid interests included gardening, knitting, sewing, cooking and entertaining and working to protect the environment. Jackie was also an accomplished handywoman, with a building project always on the go. Memorial donations may be made to the David Suzuki Foundation or World Wildlife Fund, or any organization working to protect wildlife and the environment. Memorial service will be held at St. George's Anglican Church, Cadboro Bay, Victoria on August 26,2017 at 2pm.
