With profound sorrow in our hearts, we say goodbye to the vibrant spirit of Jane Ann Wilson, a remarkable woman of 70, who left us unexpectedly on 19 September 2023, at the Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria. She leaves behind a legacy embraced by her cherished daughter, Emma Jane Wilson-Pease, her partner, Christopher Melik Pease, her brother Peter (Dianne) and their extended family, and the family of her late sister Mary (Bernie Campbell).
Born in the sunny embrace of Calgary, Alberta on 16 January 1953, to Patrick John Wilson and Kathleen Alexis Wilson (nee Johns), Jane's adventurous spirit led her family to Victoria in 1970. There, she pursued higher education and, with unwavering determination, embarked on a career at the Royal Bank. During her career, she juggled accounting studies and a new role at the University of Victoria, amassing accolades that culminated in her CGA professional accounting designation in 1984. Jane thrived in public practice and later imparted her financial acumen to others at Royal Roads University, continually expanding her intellectual horizons.
Beyond her professional pursuits, Jane reveled in the splendor of nature, finding joy in walks, bird watching, and underwater adventures. Her explorations took her far and wide, from the scenic corners of Canada to the breathtaking landscapes of Australia, Malta, France, Hawaii, China, and Portugal, and visits to the UK. Jane was passionate about her Unitarian community, the camaraderie of her book club, and her active involvement with Dying with Dignity Canada. She treasured moments spent with little children, finding immense pride and happiness in nurturing her beloved daughter, Emma.
In the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her, Jane leaves an indelible mark of quiet wisdom, thoughtfulness, and boundless compassion. Her journey was a tapestry of a purposeful, remarkable life, a life cherished and lived meaningfully.
“If only we could know the reason why they went | We’d smile and wipe away the tears that flow | And wait content”. If Only - author unknown.
A service to honour Jane will be held at First Unitarian Church of Victoria, 5575 W Saanich Rd, Victoria, BC, V9E 2G1, on Dec 17, 2023, Sunday at 2pm. Donations in remembrance of Jane can be made to Dying with Dignity Canada.
