Yvonne was born to Janet and Selwyn Davie on August 24, 1927. She passed away peacefully at the age of 89 years at her home with family by her side. Although Yvonne grew up during the depression years she fondly remembered summers at Cordova Bay, her father packing the family up for spur of the moment camping, road trip to Coeur d' Alene Idaho, canoeing, Adagio dancing, Scouting with Freeman King and of course her beloved Cocker Spaniels. After working at the Dockyard during the war she was employed by the provincial government Motor Vehicle Branch. It was there where she met Ben Oxendale. They were married August 19, 1949. After having four children they eventually purchased their house on Acemink Road. They said it was their forever home and they never wanted to move again; they kept their word. Yvonne volunteered at her children's schools, Cub Scouts and the figure skating club. In her later years she took up woodcarving and lapidary. Everyone in the family has beautiful jewelry that she made for them. Yvonne was pre-deceased by her husband Benjamin in 1999, her parents Janet and Selwyn, brother Angus and sisters Marguerite and Mary. She is survived by her children Janet, Mary (Geoff), Dave, and James (Diana). She is also survived by her brother Charles (Hellen), her grandchildren Monique, Bonnie, Heather, Ben, and her great grandchildren Zoe, Rhiannon, Kye, Shandrea and all of her nieces and nephews to which she was extremely close. Yvonne will be greatly missed by her loving family and friends. Thanks to Dr. Simcoff, the Community Nurses, Hospice, the many Beacon Home Support workers, especially Holly and Karen who have been with her for the past six years. Also thanks to all the staff and volunteers at the Priory's Adult Day Care and Bath program. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Yvonne's memory to the Red Cross, Hospice or the Eldercare Foundation. A Tea will be held May 14th at 2pm at the home of James and Diana Oxendale, 915 Windship Place, Victoria, BC.
