Jean Eleanor Field

Shortly after difficult surgery Jean Field passed away at 7am on Thursday, August 20th, 2015, about the same time of day that she was usually out for her regular walk along the Inner Harbour's Westsong Walkway.
Predeceased by her parents Poole Field and Cora Rueger, Jean leaves to mourn her sudden passing her partner of 20 years, Roy Richford and his family, her brothers Spencer and Merril and sisters Barbara, Mary, Mildred and Eileen; also nieces and nephews and a number of great nieces and nephews to whom she was very happy to be their Great Aunt.
Jean was born on a farm, attended a one room school and then high school in Kelvington, SK. Jean graduated in 1956 from St. Paul's Hospital School of Nursing, Saskatoon, and began a long career in nursing in Saskatchewan and Alberta, first as a hospital nurse. Later, she worked as a Public Health Nurse in southwestern Saskatchewan in the first Public Health Unit established in the province. It was work in which she excelled and loved. In 1960 Jean married Harold Smith. In 1976 Jean graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree. In the 1980's Jean was Registrar for the Alberta Registered Nurses Association, Edmonton, and retired in 1993 from the position of Executive Director of the Association.
Throughout her life Jean made friends easily and had true concern for the well-being of others. Her many interests were in nature, particularly Canadian, art, music, reading and travelling to see some of the diverse places on our planet. She had great curiosity, was eager to learn and always had questions. That was our Jean.

Cremation has taken place. For family and friends there will be a gathering at 2 pm, October 3, 2015, at Howard Johnson Hotel, 4670 Elk Lake Road, Victoria, to remember Jean and celebrate her life.
