Jeannette Edith Normand

d. July 31, 2021

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our dear Wife, Mom and Grandma, Jeannette Edith Normand on July 31, 2021 after a brief but brave battle with Pancreatic Cancer. As she always did throughout her life, Jeannette upheld her strength, courage, and kindness.
Jeannette is survived by her loving husband Tom of 46 years, and her three cherished daughters Nicole (Cory), Trisha (Ryan) and Stephanie (Darcy), as well as her treasured nine grandchildren Alexa, Lucas, Layla, Graidy, Summer, Cashton, Hunter, Zander and Maylin, who were so proud to call her Grandma. Jeannette also leaves behind her six beloved siblings, their spouses, many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and wonderful longtime friends who were so dear to her.
Jeannette was born in 1948 in Edmonton Alberta to Foster and Pauline Hinkley. After meeting the love of her life, Jeannette and Tom got married in 1975 and moved to Mission BC to start their life together. A few years later, with 2 young children in tow they moved to Woss where they had their third daughter. Jeannette enjoyed raising her daughters, many camping adventures with family and friends, skiing, and playing on the slow pitch ball team. Tom and Jeannette later moved their young family to Campbell River where they made new friends, hosted many BBQs and pool parties in their backyard and later enjoyed boating around the Island. In retirement, they moved to Victoria to be closer to family where they kept busy helping and spending time with their grandchildren in Victoria, Duncan and Alberta.
Jeannette's greatest pride and joy were her grandchildren. The birth of each one brought her such delight. She was incredibly proud of each of them. Grandma never missed an opportunity to attend their activities, take walks to the park, bake together, have talks on the phone, watch favorite shows together and read books.
We wish to extend our appreciation for the care given to Jeannette by Dr. Prinsloo, the BC Cancer Agency, home care nurses, doctors, nurses and staff at 8 South and Hospice at Royal Jubilee Hospital.
Mom, we love you and miss you so much. We promise to raise our children as you raised us with kindness, fairness, strength, thoughtfulness and love.
See you in the funny papers Grandma! ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
On Monday August 2 our immediate family went to Tower Point Beach in Victoria to say goodbye to our amazing wife, mom and Grandma. Our Dad picked flowers from their garden that Mom always loved and tended to meticulously -her roses and dahlias. We each tossed a flower into the ocean and told Jeannette/Mom/Grandma we love her and she will be terribly missed. We had a picnic lunch and the grandchildren played at the beach. It was the perfect send off to our mom who will be incredibly missed by all of us.
We wish to express our sincere gratitude to family and friends who have been such a support to our family during the last several months. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
