Joachim Karl Elias was a writer, a musician, a baker, a spoken work artist and a loving friend. Born September 15, 1964, when his family was living in Chatham Channel, he died in Victoria, on November 28, of complications from Non-Hodkins Lymphoma.
Joachim was a fierce Scrabble player, a master of karaoke, a jungle gym for small children and an impassioned pianist and vocalist. From his childhood in Fort Langley, Jock as he was known to his family, constantly drew and wrote and he loved to perform. A student of UVic's writing program, he wrote with humour and insight, his commentary clear-eyed and direct and when presented from stage, not always softened for its recipients.
We have sweet memories of Jock’s recent karaoke performances at a family wedding: an impassioned Bohemian Rhapsody solo and a warm Sweet Caroline-with some of his cousins once removed.
Joachim's grieving family includes his mother Lotte Elias and his siblings: Tim Elias (Yvonne Boyd), Heather (George Sumner) Elske (Patrick Everett) and his son Ezra. Hans Elias is his late father. Also grieving Joachim's death are his nieces and nephews: Eli, Tabitha, Maegan, Vincent & Alessandra, his caring friends, including George, Lynda, Eileen, Alan, and Noah and others we apologize for missing, and his loving cousins and their children.
A celebration of Joachim's life will be held in the late Spring. Donations may be made in his memory to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Research Society of Canada.
