Joanne Walsh

WALSH, Joanne Florence - passed away peacefully on February 21, 2014 with her family at her side. Many thanks to the staff of Mt. St. Marys for making moms last few months as comfortable as possible.. Joanne will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Jennifer (Jim) and Yvonne, her sister Mary, (pre-deceased, 2 sisters Lucie and Anne), 4 grandchildren, Sean (Ashlea), Gary (Jenn), Karlin (Joel) and Cory and her many nieces and nephews. Born in Vanguard Sask. on October 24, 1933, she often talked about her very happy childhood spent in Paddockwood, before moving to Prince Albert, where she graduated high school and met her husband Lloyd. They moved to B.C. in 1955 with their daughter Jennifer and 2 years later Yvonne was born in Vancouver. When her daughters were 5 and 2 she became a single parent and raised her daughters on her own until they left home to pursue their adult lives. Joanne moved to Victoria in 1973 to be close to her sister Lucie and a few years later daughters also moved to Victoria. Mom was always interested in learning new things, she would have loved to have extended her education by attending a University. After retiring in 1990 mom enjoyed reading her many books on royalty, history, past and present, nature and biographies. She also viewed many TV shows with regards to these topics, as well as keeping informed with world events and politics. Mom became a very independent person, loving her little apartment and being able to walk to everything close by. She was kind, compassionate, and supportive, always interested in the lives of her children and grandchildren. She loved nothing better then having a good gab with family and friends. The last year had been very difficult for mom with regard to her health and new living conditions. What a trooper she was dealing with her physically debilitating stroke suffered a year ago, and then having to undergo cancer treatments in January, but with the support of her family she was trying to make the best of it. Mom you will be greatly missed by all your family and friends. Our lives have been touched forever by your presence. We know you are now with your parents and sisters having a good gab!!
