STEFANIEC, John (Ian), Robert
March 25, 1947 – Feb. 22, 2022
Ian was born and raised in Oak Bay...grew up on Granite Street. He died peacefully at home with his wife Diana by his side.
He is survived by Diana, his best friend for over 42 years. Sisters-in-law Sandra Foss (Sidney) and Marilyn Ross (Brampton). Ian has numerous nieces and nephews, including Ian Foss (Kirsten) and Evan Stefaniec, who is left to carry on the family name. Also, great friends Tom Sims, Murray and Gwenyth Anderson and Al Goyette.
Ian was predeceased by his Dad John, Mom Mary, Aunt Margaret Dickson, brother David and recently David’s wife Diana.
Ian’s favorite things were boats, unique vehicles, off colour jokes, loud music, a great story and a yummy martini with 1 olive only.
Ian was a brilliant man who enjoyed mentoring, fixing things and problem solving. He was a very proud member of Capital City Yacht Club for 34 years. He enjoyed participating in almost all activities and taking thousands of photographs. He made lifelong boating friends at CCYC and in the boating community.
John Stefaniec Ltd. was the family business. Ian was the industrial electrician who diagnosed and repaired machinery at many local businesses especially the Times Colonist. His favorite challenge was working on the Goss Color liner that was installed in 1988 at the TC. Without his troubleshooting ability the TC wouldn’t have made it to your doorstep on quite a few occasions over the years.
Ian almost made it to his 75 th birthday in March. He fought a brave battle against small cell lung cancer. Our thanks to: Dr. Galina Turpin and so many other Doctors, nurses and support staff at the B.C. Cancer Center, VGH and VIHA.
Diana would like to celebrate Ian’s life at a later date. Please remember Ian with a smile on your face and sipping your favourite beverage.
