John passed away at home with those who loved him most at his bedside. During the final six years of Johns life he lived with cancer, which included some very challenging times, as well as times when he was able to embrace life with his usual zeal. John was born in Vancouver and graduated from Burnaby South High School in 1966. He trained in graphic design at the Vancouver School of Art, and worked in the commercial art field before moving on to a long career in museum graphic and exhibit design. He was Head of Exhibit Design at the Royal British Columbia Museum when he retired in 2007. John was a passionate collector who loved to entertain. His friends will remember his conviviality and heated discussions about movies, architecture, music and food. Most of all, John was a devoted husband and father, as well as a loving brother and uncle. We will miss you so much! John is survived by his wife Kathryn, daughter Eliza, son Jesse, and brother Ian (Pamela), as well as nephews (Steven, Daniel, Connor, Davis) and nieces (Jennifer, Kelsey). He was predeceased by his father, A. Gordon Robertson, and mother, Kay (Kate) Robertson. Johns family would like to express extreme gratitude to staff at the BC Cancer Agency, Victoria Hospice Society, and Esquimalt/Westshore Home and Community Care for their amazing support over the past years and weeks. A special thank you also to Dr. Darren Biberdorf for surgeries that gave John a new lease on life on several occasions. There will be a nonreligious celebration of Johns life and reception at St. Anns Academy (835 Humboldt Street) on Friday, August 2nd at 1pm. Guests who have difficulty with stairs are encouraged to contact Kathryn before the day of the service, so we can make sure you have easy access to the elevator. In lieu of flowers, donations in Johns memory to the Victoria Hospice Society would be very welcome. To make a donation, click above on 'memorial gift'.
