Born in Beverley, UK. He met Joan Wilson whilst at Manchester U. They married in 1956, emigrating to Canada in 1963. Their children Michael, Valerie, and Colin brought great joy sharing enthusiasm for the outdoors. Later, their spouses - Kathy, Allan, and Mary - added a new dimension to family life.
Bryan had a strong commitment to developing practical applications for scientific knowledge. In the UK, he was with a team that developed float glass. And years later in Vancouver with a company developing the world's first commercial rechargeable lithium battery. He worked 29 years for the National Research Council culminating in the reshaping of scientific and engineering programs to tackle environmental challenges.
Bryan retired in 1995. He and Joan moved from Ottawa to Victoria where they both became very active in the local gardening community and continued to travel the world. The arrival of grandsons Alex and Silas brought new joy to all the family.
