John Keith Thorsborg

September 23, 1946 — March 31, 2025

John, a beloved member of the Victoria community, passed away on March 31, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering dedication to his family, friends, and the causes he held dear. Born on September 23, 1946, in Duncan, British Columbia, John was the youngest of five children born to Ruth and Svend Thorsborg. His passing has left a profound void in the lives of those who knew and cherished him.

John's early years were spent in Duncan, where he shared a close bond with his siblings, Iris Marguerite Lochmanetz, Anne Marie Fallow, Christian Harry Thorsborg, and Dorreen Ruth Thorsborg. As a young adult, he ventured into the logging industry before transitioning to commercial fishing, all the while nurturing his passion for music. His talent and love for music led him to become a cherished member of several bands, including Barry Cup and Duke and the DuckTales.

It was during this time that John met the love of his life, Sally, who affectionately shared the story of how she pursued him from lounge to lounge until she finally captured his heart. Together, they settled in Victoria, where John earned the endearing nickname "Mr. Fix-It" for his work in apartment maintenance. His dedication to his craft and his warm, welcoming nature made him an integral part of the community.

John's impact extended beyond his professional life. As a devoted member of the Open Door Spiritualist Sanctuary, he actively participated in various community activities, including Music of the Night events, Spiritual Healing sessions, and Sunday gatherings. His generosity and hospitality knew no bounds, as he opened his home to visitors from the Sophia community worldwide, providing them with comfort and support during their time in Victoria.

A man of many talents, John was a dedicated gardener and a skilled craftsman, finding joy in creating and nurturing. His final years were spent joyfully tending to his various projects, from candle making to supporting the maintenance of the sanctuary. His creation of the IQ Garden brought immense joy not only to his community but also to his neighbors, leaving a lasting impact on all who had the pleasure of experiencing its beauty.

John's passing has left a profound void in the lives of his loved ones, including his sister, Iris Marguerite Lochmanetz, nephew West Bradley Lochmanetz, nieces Cynthia Ann Hamilton, Christina Lynn Lochmanetz, Correen May Hebert, Candice Marie Lochmanetz, and in-laws Mandy, Penny, and Andrew and their families. Along with his bandmates, cherished friends, IQ Sophia Community and his Sanctuary family. He was predeceased by his parents, Ruth and Svend Thorsborg, and his siblings Anne Marie Fallow, Christian Harry Thorsborg, and Dorreen Ruth Thorsborg, as well as his beloved wife, Sally.

A Service of Remembrance will be held at the Open Door Spiritualist Sanctuary on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers and trees, John kindly requested that donations be made to support his various meaningful projects. Contributions can be sent to the Inner Quest Foundation, 1600 Cook St., Victoria, BC, V8T 3P1. All donations are tax-deductible.

John's legacy of love, generosity, and unwavering dedication to his community will forever be remembered and cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His kindness and warmth touched the lives of many, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to call him a friend. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for all eternity.
