John Banham Tickner

May 30, 1934 — March 22, 2021

John Banham Tickner, 86, of Victoria, BC, passed away on March 22nd, 2021 at Royal Jubilee Hospital. John Banham Tickner was born in England on May 30, 1934. John's mother registered him for adoption to Stoney Stratford orphanage in Buckinghamshire, England when she became too ill to care for him. John joined the Royal Navy after leaving the orphanage at 18 and was trained as an electronics technician. After serving eight years with the Navy, John took a job with a private company and immigrated with his family to Montreal, Canada in 1962. John moved his family around Canada due to various job opportunities and eventually settled in Dartmouth, NS where he worked the rest of his years with the Coast Guard. He loved to work. He always had fun. He enjoyed the friends he made along the way and made many lasting friendships over the years.
John will be remembered by family and friends as a character. He was full of energy and life and had many interests. He played squash like a zealot, collected antique books, sang in many a choir, was an active church community member wherever he went and was an excellent bridge player just to name a few. He collected many things and decorated his home with books first, then clocks, lamps and pictures of whales, cows, cherubs. John is survived by his daughter Carol Stephanie Tickner (55), son Gary Banham Tickner (57), granddaughter Kendra Grace Tickner (18) and grandsons Joel Banham Tickner (16), Jeffrey Frank MacLeod (14) and Riley John MacLeod (11) who will remember him with fond memories and his spirt for life will live on in them and all those he touched. Due to COVID 19 restrictions, there will be a very small gathering of immediate family and very close friends hosted by his daughter Carol at her residence.
