John Conrad Wick, a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on October 5, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and inspiration. Born on August 25, 1969, in Nanaimo, BC, John's life was a testament to the power of kindness, humour, and unwavering support for those he held dear.

John's journey through life was marked by his unwavering dedication to his craft. Whether it was sports or work, he fully committed to giving his best. From an early age, John’s enthusiasm for sports was evident—he eagerly played hockey, football, and rugby, and his athletic talents eventually led him to play for Rugby Alberta. Starting his career as an apprentice scaffolder in the mid-90s in Alberta, he quickly ascended the ranks, earning his journeyman ticket and becoming a respected leader in his field. His expertise and passion for his work led him to various pulp mills around Vancouver Island, eventually moving on to the shipyard in Esquimalt, where his contributions left an indelible mark on the industry. His commitment to safety, mentorship, and professionalism set a standard that inspired and uplifted those around him.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, John was a storyteller, music lover, and poet. His vibrant spirit and infectious sense of humour endeared him to all who had the privilege of knowing him. He was a beacon of light in the lives of his family, friends, and colleagues, always ready to lend a helping hand or share a laugh.

In times of need, John's unwavering support and love shone through. He showed up big for his family when times were hard: spending weeks in Sherwood Park after his brother, Dave, suffered a stroke; making regular trips to Campbell River when his mother, Joan, was battling cancer; and doing the heavy lifting after his father, Larry, had a stroke and needed to move into long-term care.

John's love extended beyond his human connections. He cherished his role as an uncle to Gordie the Houndasaurus, and their bond was a source of immeasurable joy and comfort for both of them. His passion for art, music, and literature was boundless, and his knowledge, which he was always willing to share with his friends, was as vast as his heart.

John's passing leaves a void that cannot be filled, but his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. His impact on the lives of those around him is immeasurable, and his legacy of love and compassion will continue to inspire and uplift.

A small celebration of John's life will be held at Earth's Option in Langford, BC on November 14, 2025, followed by an off-site reception where friends and family will come together to share stories of how John touched their lives. Separate celebrations of life will also be held in Southern Vancouver Island and in Sherwood Park in 2026, allowing those who loved him to honour his memory and find solace in each other's company.

John will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to have known him. His kindness, humour, and unwavering love will be cherished forever.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in John’s name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
