JOSEPH “CLARENCE” BELLIVEAU
September 22, 1931 – April 2, 2023
Sadly, and with heavy hearts, we share that Clarence Belliveau, 91, passed away peacefully, at home and lovingly surrounded by family, on April 2nd, 2023, in Victoria BC.
Clarence (Clare) was born in St. Paul’s, New Brunswick on September 22, 1931, and was born 5th in a line up of 10 brothers and sisters, to parents Edna and Camille Belliveau. He left the family home in Minto NB at a young age and joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1954. While stationed in Portage la Prairie he met Luise, and married March 2nd, 1957. Soon after, they were posted to Germany where 3 of their 4 children would be born. The young family of 5 returned to Canada in 1963 and with the birth of their fourth child in 1964, their family was complete.
Clare is survived by Luise, his wife of 66 years, and their four children, Debbie, Tina, Linda (spouse Mike) and Bruce. Clare also enjoyed and loved their four grandchildren, Emmalee, Jayme, Taylor, and Megan and five great grandchildren, Luisa, Koen, Kaedn, Nicola, and Colby. Sadly, he will not get to meet his 6th great grandchild expected in July. Clare is also survived by his siblings, John, Raymond (spouse Edna), David (spouse Marcella) and many nieces and nephews across the country. Clare was predeceased by his parents, sisters Dorella, Rita, Lorraine and Nita, brothers Emery and Ivan, and sadly, some nieces and nephews as well.
Clare enjoyed his career as a Firefighter /Fire Chief in the Canadian Armed Forces, and he retired as Chief Warrant Officer after 30 years of service. His career took him to Europe and across Canada having called “home” to Germany, Chatham NB, North Bay ON, Toronto ON, Comox BC, and Winnipeg MB, throughout his career. Clare and his family settled in Victoria BC when Clare retired in 1983. One of the constant highlights of Clare’s retirement was his involvement with the Victoria Horseshoe Club, it became a passion that he enjoyed for the rest of his life.
Clare was a good, kind man and he will be so sadly missed. He was a master organizer who loved to improve and/or bring order to everything he touched. He was dedicated and hard working, supportive and reliable. And he was mischievous! He always enjoyed a good time and lightening the mood and watch out for that twinkle in his eyes…he was surely up to something!
There will be a Celebration of Life for CLARE, held at the
Victoria Horseshoe Club on Sunday, May 7th, 2023, at 1:00.
In lieu of flowers or memorial donations the family requests that you share a fond memory of Clare if you would like. The family also wishes to extend their gratitude for all the care given by the wonderful VIHA Caregivers and the Hospice PRT team.
