Julia (Judy) Greer passed away peacefully on Monday, September 21, 2026 in the Victoria Hospice at the age of 102.
Judy was a devoted sister, mother, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother, and a warm and caring friend. She will be lovingly remembered by her sons Brian Greer (Carol Dohan), Dennis Greer (Faith Greer), and daughter Joan Greer; her grandchildren Geoffrey Henwood-Greer, Suzanne Henwood-Greer, Eric Henwood-Greer, Zoë Williams, Klaas Greer-de Kimpe, Savannah Greer, Shealin Greer and their partners; great grandchildren, Theodore Jack, Frida Jack and August Revill; and many other relatives and dear friends. Judy was predeceased by her husband, Harold Greer, sister, Eileen Prittie, and many other relatives and close friends.
Judy was born in Edmonton, Alberta to Anne and Fred Reynolds. They lived in the Garneau community and Judy attended Garneau Elementary and Strathcona High Schools. After a year studying Home Economics at the University of Alberta, she moved with her parents to Ottawa where she worked in the laboratory at the Experimental Farm, Department of Agriculture.
In 1945 Judy married Harold Greer. They returned to Alberta, living in Three Hills during the early years of married life before moving back to Edmonton. Judy and Harold had three children, Brian, Dennis, and Joan.
Judy was a loving stay-at-home mother while her children were young. She was also a caring neighbour and active community member, involved in volunteer activities including serving as treasurer for her sons’ cub packs and scout troops. She later worked outside the home as Activity Coordinator at the Allen Gray Auxiliary Hospital, as a Volunteer Service Coordinator at the Edmonton Volunteer Action Centre, and as Volunteer Coordinator first at the Cross Cancer Institute, and later at the Youth Emergency Shelter Society (YESS).
Judy was a strong supporter of social justice and she volunteered in corrections for both the Elizabeth Fry and John Howard Societies in Edmonton. She was also an active member of St. George’s Anglican Church, serving on numerous committees and outreach programmes.
In 2001 Judy moved to her final, much loved home and community, on Beechwood Avenue in Victoria.
The family are very grateful for the sustained and wonderful care of Dr. Ted Rosenberg and his medical team, and also to all those at the Victoria Hospice who provided loving care to Judy at the end of her life.
In lieu of flowers please consider honouring Judy through a donation to the Victoria Hospice or Canadian Red Cross.
