Our dear sister Ann, aunt, great-aunt and friend left us on January 18, leaving her sister Margaret, her brother Bill (Joan), nine nieces and nephews and their spouses, twenty grand nieces, nephews and spouses and a host of dear friends to mourn her.
She grew up in a farming family in southern Alberta, took a Household Economics degree from the U of A, then a Masters in Nutrition from Berkeley, California. She worked in the north for Indian Affairs, the Diet Dispensary in Montreal and then as a Public Health Nutritionist in Halifax for the Province of Nova Scotia, retiring to Victoria in 1992. Here, she made many new friends by joining Newcomers. She was lovingly committed to her family and cheered them on as they grew and found their own way in the world. Her fine sewing skills were evidenced in beautiful clothes for her nieces in Victoria, costumes for the NoteAbles Musical Variety shows, and some fittings for the Cancer Society where she volunteered in various capacities for over 25 years. She was an enthusiastic Dragon Boat paddler for breast cancer Island Breast Strokers Team, a cook for the Victoria Women's Transition House shelter, and a volunteer driver and envelope stuffer for Oak Bay Volunteer Services. A life long learner, she loved to travel to many places in the world. She had a keen interest in art, both classical and more recent, taking many courses to further her understanding. Her keenest interest was in our First Nations peoples and their art and cultures. Her abiding interest was food. She loved to bake, cook, and with great pleasure try new healthy recipes and ideas for her friends and family. She enjoyed eating in restaurants, and the waffles cooked by her brother on Sunday mornings. She was a kind, thoughtful, very generous and unassuming person and will be sorely missed. A private burial will be held at Royal Oak Burial Park, followed by a public Celebration of Life at the First Memorial Chapel, 4725 Falaise Dr., Victoria, B.C. on Saturday, February 4 at 10:00 a.m.
