Phillips, Kathleen Mary March 29, 1935-November16, 2014 At the age of 79 Kay passed away peacefully at the Victoria Hospice. Kay, the eldest child of Eileen and Eric Keddie, was born in The Pas Manitoba. She graduated with her BSc in Nursing from the University of Saskatchewan. While in Saskatoon she met and later married her beloved Bud, June14, 1958. After one year in Watrous Saskatchewan, the family moved to Winnipeg where they continued their nursing and medical careers. The family then moved to Regina which was home from1965-1995. Victoria was then home for the past 19 years. Kay was a wonderful wife and mother. She adored people and always made time for everyone. She had a big smile that was contagious. She was an active volunteer: in Regina at St Lukes Anglican Church and the Santa Maria Nursing Home and in Victoria at St Marys Anglican Church in Oak Bay. Kay loved summers at the lake starting in her childhood and later sharing the love of cottage life with her husband and children. She worked, played, laughed and loved every little bit of Sunset Cove and the people there. Although there was an endless amount of maintenance - gardening, plumbing, carpentry, masonry and electrical work, she still enjoyed swims on hot days, Saskatoon berry picking (then pies), market garden veggies and a Gin&Tonic with good friends on the deck. Remembered fondly for many hobbies: bridge, gardening, pottery, singing, and walking, the friends that she did her hobbies with were even more important to her. She belonged to several clubs: the University Womens Club, the Upland Probus Club and the Saanich Newcomers. She is predeceased by her parents Eric and Eileen Keddie. She is survived by her husband Bud, her four children: John,(Leah), Catherine( Rob), Ken( Lynda), and Kim( Brian). She will be missed by all her grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Phil(Jackie) and sister-in-law Joan(Gus). Our thanks go to the staff at The Victoria General Hospital and the Royal Jubilee Hospital. The staff at the Victoria Hospice were absolutely wonderful to her and us and we are very grateful to them. A family funeral service has been held in the chapel at St Marys Anglican Church Oak Bay. A Celebration of Life service will be held from 1PM to 3:30PM Saturday November 22nd in the Reading Room at the Union Club In lieu of flowers please donate to Victoria Hospice or Vancouver Island Cancer Center by clicking above on memorial gift.
