Friends and Relatives It is always difficult to make the announcement that someone has passed from our world. Kasys, better known as Charlie to those of us who knew him passed away today at the Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria, BC after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was 93 years of age. He will be missed by Berta Fischer whom he has known for 30 years and resided with for many years. Charlie was born in Lithuania as the son of Antonis and Veronica and was one of 6 girls and 3 boys in the family. At the age of 20 (June 1939) he was sent to Germany by Hitlers forces to work in a milk factory. He later spent time working at repairing bridges and air strips as part of the war effort. In 1948 the Red Cross sponsored free transportation to people who had relatives in Canada. Charlie came to Canada and lived with my grandparents in Ville LaSalle, a suburb of Montreal at the time. He worked hard in the steel industry for a number of years and then became a contractor building homes in the Montreal area and then in Calgary. He moved to Victoria where he dabbled in real estate for a number of years until retirement. Charlie spoke at least four languages and had travelled to all continents of the world during his stay on the planet. If you knew him, you knew someone who picked up the 'joie de vivre' during his stay in Quebec. The picture was taken in his home in October 2012. Following cremation in Victoria, Charlie will be buried where he began his life in Canada...Montreal. Say a Prayer!
