Kenneth Murray Webb

April 2, 1942 — June 4, 2023

Kenneth Murray Webb passed away at the age of 81 on June 4, 2023, after a courageous struggle with asbestos lung cancer. Ken was born in Victoria on April 2, 1942, and graduated from Victoria High School.  Except for a few working adventures in Australia and the Yukon, he was a proud Victorian. Ken completed his boat-building studies at BCIT later working in boat yards in and near Victoria, always preferring and excelling at the wood-working parts of the craft.  He loved working with wood and called himself a 'Woodie". Ken was a committed runner, a member of the Prairie Inn Harriers Running Club for decades, completing 52 marathons and many shorter distance races, in and around Victoria, some in Calgary, Vancouver and Seattle.  Ken was a well-liked, kind and gentle man.  He was a disciplined runner, originally inspired by Victoria High School legend, teacher, and tennis athlete, Gordon Hartley and befriended in his early running years by legend runner, Al Howie.  Ken achieved some excellent race times, but always understated his accomplishments, insisting he was a 'slugger' not a racer. Ken was a gentle soul, he lived simply and let others do the same. He was a devoted son, a beloved brother, brother-in-law, uncle, great uncle, cousin and friend. He would tell you a story about almost anything, and was very accurate with his facts, which he researched thoroughly. Ken is survived by his sister, Carol Ann Kielau and brother-in-law, Doug Kielau, niece Leanna (Sol), great nephews Ethan Craig and Sam Craig; Nephew Jason Kielau (Jacqueline) and great nephew Zachary Kielau, all of Calgary. Ken also leaves behind his niece Shelly Webster of Sidney, great nieces Becky (Michael) and Jessie (Brandon) of Victoria.  Ken was predeceased by his father Percy Webb, his brother Bud (Donald) Webb, mother Gertrude Webb, and recently his niece's husband, Dan Webster. Ken also leaves behind many close friends around Victoria, good friends since childhood from the McClung family, and a wonderful group of supportive friends in the Victoria running community.

A celebration of Ken’s life will be held on Sunday, June 18 at the Gorge Pavilion from 2:30pm to 5:00pm. Ken avidly supported the Terry Fox cause, running the course annually until his illness no longer allowed.  Ken walked the Victoria Terry Fox course with his family and friends as recently as last September. Memorial donations may be made in Ken's honour to the Terry Fox Foundation.
