With sadness and gratitude for a long and meaningful life, we announce that Lawrence (Larry) Howard McGill died peacefully on December 17, 2025 at Selkirk Seniors Village, in his 91th year.
Born on April 24, 1935, to Howard and Doris (Finch) McGill, Larry was the loving husband of Mona (Williams) McGill; brother to Carol; and father of Jeff (Lianne LaPorte), Michael (Catherine) McGill, Jane, and Barb (Shawn Spicer). He was grandfather to Crystal (Scott), Cheryl, Ryan, Jamieson, Molly (Anthony), Sally (Nathaniel), Abby, and Owen, and great-grandfather to Liam, Aiblhin, Ethan, and McKayla. Larry was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Mona; his brother, Bob, and his grandson, Danny.
Larry grew up in Waterford, Ontario, leaving after high school to pursue studies in Civil Engineering at the University of Western Ontario, followed by a master’s degree at the University of Toronto. During this time, he met and married his partner in life,Mona, and they began their family.
Throughout his life, Larry was deeply engaged in his engineering career, working extensively across the Global South on urban infrastructure projects focused on clean water supply and waste management—work that reflected his strong belief in dignity, equity, and care for communities. His professional life was marked by dedication, curiosity, and integrity. He continued this work well into his seventies.
After retiring, Larry became an active and cherished member of First Metropolitan United Church (now Broadview), where he served on various committees and sang in the choir. He was known as a thoughtful and steady presence, offering his time, voice, and wisdom in service of the community.
Larry loved music and had a deep appreciation for the outdoors. He enjoyed snooker, golf, good food, good friends and time spent exploring and experiencing the world—interests that reflected his adventurous spirit and lifelong openness to learning.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff at Renaissance Retirement Home and Selkirk Seniors Village for their exceptional care, compassion, and kindness over the past few years.
The family will gather for a private ceremony.
Larry will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered. His life leaves a legacy of service, curiosity, and faithfulness.
