Lois Mary George

November 27, 1952 — December 30, 2023

Lois Mary George (November 27, 1952 – December 30, 2023) – Lois passed away peacefully at home on December 30th, with her son and daughter-in law by her side, after battling a sudden diagnosis only a short two months prior. She is survived by children Ryan Cramp (Jill) and Jennifer Teryn (Scott); grandchildren Niko, Brody, and Westley; brothers Keith and Brian; sister Carol; as well as many cousins, nephews, and nieces. She was predeceased by her parents Bernice and Harold.

Lois was born and raised in Victoria and graduated from Oak Bay High. Some of her fondest memories were of spending summers at the family cabin on Shawnigan Lake. Immediately after graduation, Lois left the island for the first time and travelled all the way to Tokyo. This would help ignite a lifelong passion for travel that took her to many destinations over the years.

Lois worked as a phototypesetter when Ryan and Jennifer were young, and in her late 30’s, she made a huge decision to move to Ontario to complete the necessary education to become a Registered Massage Therapist. It was well worth it, as she loved being an RMT and enjoyed a successful career.

Once the massage work became too demanding physically, Lois spent a few years working at the QA Foundation. She also had odd jobs that included teaching ESL, tutoring, and dog sitting. Dog sitting was especially rewarding, as she was not only passionate about her connection with animals, but she also made many close friends along the way.

Lois loved all things artistic, especially enjoying painting and sketching. If you visit her website at loisgeorge.com, you will see many of her pieces, including the numerous oil paintings of the dogs that she looked after and cared for greatly. Music was also a passion of hers (singing in particular) and she had many fond memories of performing with the Goward House Singers.

“Lola”, as she liked to be called by the grandkids, was always up for a new project or adventure, whether it was transforming her house into a duplex, planning a family vacation, seeing one of her favorite musicians in concert, or learning to golf in her 70’s.

In late October, shortly after returning home from a Mediterranean cruise, Lois received her shocking cancer diagnosis, which turned her world (and ours) upside down. She stayed at Royal Jubilee Hospital for a couple of weeks and then spent the rest of her time living with Ryan and his family. Special thanks goes out to all of the amazing doctors, nurses, and other health care workers that helped Lois along the way.

By Lois’ wishes, there will be no service - she wanted her life to be celebrated, not to be mourned. In lieu of flowers, at Lois’ request, she asks that a tree, shrub, or flowers be planted in remembrance of her. She so loved her garden.

Lola, you were taken from us much too soon and we miss you incredibly. We will do our best to keep your spirit and traditions alive. Rest easy, you are no longer in any pain. We love you.
