Malcolm Reginald "Reg" Fryling of Calgary and Sundre, AB, passed away December 30th, 2016, in Victoria, BC at the age of 83, from the effects of recurrent pneumonia. Reg is survived by his son Christopher (and wife Sarah, son Jordan, daughter Avalon) of Saipan, CNMI; daughter Heather Gans (husband Colin) of Victoria; and daughter Jennifer Sobh (husband Mahmoud, daughter Hannah, son Adam) of Beirut, Lebanon; sister Arlene Fryling of Victoria; nieces Tracey, Shelley and Wendy; and former wife Jill Fryling of Kaslo, BC. He was predeceased earlier in 2016 by his sister Carole Aspen (Dan) of Nanoose Bay, BC. Reg was born and raised in Calgary. He graduated from the University of Calgary (then UAC) with an education degree (biology) in 1964, and followed this with two years of graduate studies. He married Jill Thomas, from New Zealand, in 1965 and they moved to Sundre three years later. Sundre would be their home for the next twenty-some years. They raised their children on a farm in the Bergen area while Reg taught at Sundre School. In 1989, Reg took early retirement and, now living on his own, moved back to Calgary where he became a very active member of various clubs, including hiking, skiing, folk-dancing and tai chi. In 2014 he moved to Victoria to enjoy the mild weather and be closer to family. A memorial service will be held in Victoria this coming summer (date and place to be announced). The information will be posted under Reg's name on "Earth's Option Cremation and Burial Services" website. Here, too, condolences may be written.
