Margaretha Martha de Faye

April 23, 1953 — October 24, 2025

Victoria

It is with deep sadness that the family of Margaretha Martha de Faye (nee Hoek) announces her passing on October 24, 2025, at Victoria General Hospital.

Her sudden and tragic loss is deeply felt by her loving family and her many good friends. She was greatly loved, is sorrowfully missed, and will remain forever in our hearts.

Margaretha was born on April 23, 1953, in Duncan, British Columbia, and resided for most of her life in Victoria. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 45 years, Robert (Bob) de Faye; her daughters Helen de Faye (Adam Nagy) and Marie de Faye (Chris Werner); and her cherished grandsons Owen and Griffin Nagy. She is also survived by her brothers Michael (Carol), John (Laura), her sister Celine (John), and by her many nieces, nephews and their children. She was predeceased by her parents Cor and Anne Hoek, and her brother Richard Hoek.

A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Margaretha cherished her family above all else. She and Bob shared a long and happy marriage founded on kindness, respect, and enduring love. Her home was a reflection of her care and creativity. She fearlessly took on house and garden projects; an accomplished builder, renovator and designer, no project was ever too big or too daunting. Her creativity and determination were only matched by her warmth and genuine care for others.

After surviving stage 4 colon cancer in 2010, Margaretha approached life with renewed gratitude and purpose. She approached each day with courage, love, and a deep appreciation for life, inspiring all who knew her. She had a keen ability to connect deeply with others and touched the lives of many through her thoughtful conversations and acts of compassion. For over 30 years, she could be found walking along the Dallas Road waterfront, where she formed lasting friendships and found joy in the natural beauty of her favourite spot, Ross Bay Cove.

Special thanks to the doctors and expert medical staff at Royal Jubilee Hospital and Victoria General Hospital who worked so hard and did everything possible to save our beloved Margaretha. The care she received was warmly compassionate, caring and deeply appreciated.

In keeping with her wishes, no service will be held. Donations in her memory may be made to Operation Eyesight Universal, a charity she supported throughout her life.

Margaretha will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Her love and light will live on in the many lives she touched.
