In Loving Memory of Marie Barton Hansen

With heavy hearts, we say goodbye to our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, Marie Barton Hansen , who passed away peacefully at home on December 12, 2024 . Born October 16, 1929 , in Liverpool, England , she lived a remarkable life filled with love, family, and treasured memories.

Marie is survived by her two daughters, Jane Hansen and Liz H. Turner , her four grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren, who will miss her dearly. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Paul Hansen , in 2023.

In the early 1950s, Marie emigrated from England to New York aboard the Cunard ship Britannica, eventually settling in Salt Lake City, Utah . There, she worked as a secretary for the president of Utah Oil and met Paul, the love of her life. They were married in the Salt Lake City Temple and, in 1976, made their home in Victoria, BC, Canada , where they lived the rest of their lives together.

Marie’s life was centered around family and hospitality. She was an accomplished pianist, an exceptional cook, and a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her joy came from gathering loved ones near—hosting birthday parties, organizing Easter egg hunts, and preparing unforgettable Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. Some of her happiest moments were spent watching her grandchildren ride horses a good garage sale and attending cooking classes with her daughter Liz, creating cherished memories.

In her later years, when caring for herself and Paul became challenging, Marie was blessed with exceptional caregivers. The family extends heartfelt thanks to our friend and caregiver Plerie Patnon for her devoted care and compassion, and to our dear friend David Williams , whose love and support helped ensure Marie and Paul could spend their final years surrounded by comfort and warmth at home.

We are forever grateful for the love and kindness they shared with our parents.
