Marjorie Rose Nelson

Marjorie Rose Nelson (nee Lawson) passed away peacefully on May 6, 2024 at the age of 89, surrounded by her family.

Marji was born to Maude Lillian and Albert Edward Lawson on December 31, 1934 in Toronto, Ontario. After graduating from Oakwood Collegiate, she worked for BA Oil then became a flight attendant with TransCanada Airlines (now Air Canada).

With an adventurous spirit, she moved to Calgary in 1957 where she married Gordon Nelson in 1958. A few years later they began their family, welcoming daughters Whitney, Holly and Lisa. Marji was predeceased by Gordon in 1976.

In retirement, Marji lived in both Victoria and Calgary. She enjoyed many lifelong friends and made new ones along the way. Always an avid volunteer, she dedicated her time to the Calgary Stampede, Santa’s Anonymous, Victoria Commonwealth Games, Victoria Police Service and Red Hat Society.

She deeply loved and was immensely proud of her daughters, sons-in-law Wayne, David and Richard; grandchildren Meris, Haydn, Kelsey, Michael (Kerri), Andrew, Kathryn, Lauren (Carter), Emma; and great grandchildren Isla, Tayden, Madden, Tolson, Karagyn and Jamison – each of whom will miss her love and cheeky disposition.

There was nothing better than sharing a good joke courtesy of Grandma Marji.

Marji and her family wish to thank her amazing team of caregivers and nurse managers at Vancouver Island Health Authority; cherished friend Gazelle; the wonderful staff at The Cedars at Dawson Heights Victoria; and her compassionate MAID providers Sarah, Elizabeth and their care team.
