Maureen J.E. (Laing) Pengelly

Born February 23rd, 1951 – Passed October 2nd, 2025

Maureen Pengelly, a cherished lady, known for her kind, loving, caring and generous personality, left us on October 2nd, 2025. She touched countless lives with her laughter, warmth, creativity, curiosity and caring spirit.

Born in Winnipeg, the only child of Mack Tripney Laing and Mary F. Pawlinski, she moved with her family to Victoria, B.C. in 1965. She began working for the Municipality of Saanich in 1969 and remained a dedicated employee until her retirement. Over her 52-year career, she formed many friendships and was known for her remarkable memory for names and her effort to stay in touch with everyone she met.

Maureen was an avid reader, talented sewer and a lifelong baseball fan. She loved sharing meals with friends, especially her adopted family: Neil Findlow (Anne), Jan Stubbs (Andy), their sons Daniel (Adrienne) and Christopher, as well as Matthew and Mikyla Wiesel. She also enjoyed traveling up and down Vancouver Island, and her annual trip to Port Renfrew held a special place in her heart.

Her belief that "it's better to give than to receive" guided everything she did. Her generosity was boundless, particularly for those she loved, and was also felt in her volunteer work with her church. Every act of kindness she offered came from a place of genuine love.

Maureen's life was enriched by her close relations with cousins, Heather Pawlinsky, Maxine (Gord) Zamzow, and Twylla (Andy) Mc Kendry, as well as members of her church congregation. She will be fondly remembered by many Saanich co-workers, especially her dear friend Pam Gaudio.

A celebration of Maureen's life will be held at The New Apostolic Church, 3382 Harriet Road, Victoria, B.C., at 11 o'clock Saturday, November 22nd, 2025, officiated by Rev. Matthew Wiesel. A light lunch will follow.

Your life was a blessing; your memory a treasure. You are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure.
