Megan Johnston

April 28, 1978 — March 3, 2014

Megan was born in the beautiful Comox Valley on April 28 1978 to mother Dianne Johnston, father Greg Johnston and sister Heather Johnston. Her childhood in Courtenay BC was spent with summers on Comox lake and winters on Mt. Washington. Megan loved the outdoors and her caring for animals began at a young age. Megan and her family moved to Victoria BC when she was 10 and she found a new family at a lovely school, Sundance Elementary. The students and faculty at Sundance saw Megans sensitive soul and welcomed her with such warmth, we will be forever grateful for the connections made there. Megan became a passionate snowboarder throughout her teenage years and again found herself surrounded by nature and another group of amazing friends. Megan lived in San Francisco for a short time in her twenties, she had an opportunity to work at the SFSPCA which is world renowned for its adoption and training programs. When Megan returned home to Victoria her knowledge of dog behaviours had grown and she wanted to expand her abilities. Megan took a dog grooming course and for the next 15 years operated shops that her father helped her build. Dogs were the main focus of the majority of her life. Megan also assisted an organization called Flirting With Fido, rescuing dogs, finding foster and long term homes. Megan may have chosen some interesting paths in her lifetime but in the end she made amends with many people and was able to show everyone how much of an angel she always was. The discovery of her tumour(s) in March 2013 was a shock, but Megan took it in stride. Megan saw an opportunity to embrace life and spread as much love to her friends and family as she could in the short time she had left. She did just that! Megan faced her last year like a warrior, laughed so much and loved with a new open heart. She is a special woman and in this last year her friends and family told her how special she was, a true gift that not many people get the opportunity to have. The family of Megan Johnston will not be having a public ceremony and encourage all her friends to continue to post stories to her group page on Facebook or gather together to share tales. If you would like to make a donation in her name please consider an animal rescue http://www.flirtingwithfido.com is one that Megan worked with and was passionate about.
