In Loving Memory of Michael William Chesterman

June 8, 1935 – May 26, 2025

With great sadness, we announce the passing of Michael William Chesterman on May 26, 2025, in Victoria, British Columbia, at the age of 89.

Born on June 8, 1935, in England. He emigrated to Canada in the early 1950’s, worked on the railroad, and then the Saskatchewan Penitentiary. He eventually made his way to Ontario and with a strong sense of duty began a career as a Police Officer with the Chinguacousy Township Police and then upon amalgamation with Peel Regional Police. He proudly served as a Police Officer for 28 years, dedicating his career to protecting and serving the community with honour. Upon retirement, Michael embraced a life full of passion, laughter, and adventure which lead him to B.C.

Michael was a man who truly lived. He had a deep love for ballroom dancing, where he was known for his graceful steps and charming presence. Whether dancing with friends or strangers, he was always so happy moving to the steps of the Cha Cha, Tango or Waltz. He enjoyed tequila and would sometime raise a glass in celebration of life’s big and small moments. His adventurous spirit led him to travel far and wide, with a special love for Cuba, Mexico and the Dominican Republic — places where he found warmth, rhythm, and relaxation.

He is survived by his brother Paul, daughter Lynane (husband Kevin) and son Michael (wife Charla), as well as his grandchildren Taylor, Shelby, Michael, Matthew, and Claire, each of whom held a special part in his heart.

A private family gathering will be held to celebrate Michael’s life. In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to raise a glass in his honour or consider planting a tree in his memory.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
