Michael David Glockzin

August 16, 1986 — December 20, 2024

We are heartbroken at the passing of Michael David Glockzin on December 20th, 2024. He was born in Victoria on August 16th, 1986 and lived here all his life. He leaves to mourn his beloved wife Hyeri Jo, his father David, his mother Debbie (Dermot), his brother Matthew, grandma Mimi, much loved Aunts, Uncles, cousins and best friend Chris. He is predeceased by his Papa Peter, David’s partner Enrique less than a month before Mike passed away and by two good friends, Keefer and Maitland. He loved and was loved by all his family, his many wonderful friends, his co-workers at Esquimalt DND, his hunting buddies and fishing buddies.

Mike was a Red Seal carpenter, built many houses in the Greater Victoria area, first as an apprentice and later with Chris Beardshaw as they started their own company 340 Construction. They both went on to join the team in the Carpentry shop at DND where he became the supervisor before getting ill. He did plenty of renovations for family and friends and was a talented carpenter. He loved to work on his cars and learned how to be a mechanic from an early age from Chris’ dad Grant. Go-carts, mini bikes, his trusty Suzuki Samurai, bought when he was 17 and still used for hill climbs and hunting trips, his ’69 Dodge Dart that he lovingly restored in time for his 33rd birthday and raced several times in 2024 and many of his friend’s and families cars too. He was good at fixing almost anything, loved to go camping with Hyeri and with his friends and family, went fishing any time he could, often with Chris and had an amazing hunting trip near Mackenzie in early October with his buddies, coming home with moose meat to fill the freezer. We were all recipients of chunks of moose or elk or halibut or salmon from his freezer :) Mike and his brother Matt were very close and had lots of fun together, choosing to buy a house to share 15 years ago. They went with Hyeri to see the Canucks play in Vancouver a few days before Mike went to hospital and saw lots of games and concerts over the years. Mike loved family game nights, trips to Mexico with Hyeri and his family and being at Cowichan Lake with his Auntie Bean and Uncle Dave and Jess and Shane.

Mike lived a full and adventurous life and made the most of every day particularly over the past two years as he lived with cancer. He had such a positive and steadfast attitude as he faced all the treatments and stayed strong right to the very end. He never complained and was grateful for all the care he received from his doctors and nurses who made every effort to treat him, the wonderful friends and relatives who brought him meals and treats, who went for walks with him or found other ways to support him. Hyeri was by his side and kept up her own positive support of Mike through all the challenges they faced. He made enjoying every day a priority and was taken from us far too soon at the age of 38 but he lived a beautiful life full of love, adventure, generosity and passion. We all loved him so much, the big smile, the big hugs and his great sense of humour. He loved so many people and will stay in the hearts of all of us and in our memories and the stories we share or remember forever.

After two years of living with cancer he went peacefully with his wife Hyeri and his family and dearest friends there to surround him with love as he was cared for at Victoria General Hospital and then Royal Jubilee Hospital. He was so strong right to the end and set us all such an example of courage and how to face adversity head on. We can honour Michael’s memory by being strong too, by caring for each other, by doing something kind and by embracing every day. There will be a Celebration of Life for Michael in early spring. No flowers by request but if desired a donation could be made in Michael's name to either the BC Cancer Foundation or the BC Conservation Foundation.
