Michael Howard Jeffery

My Dad was an upstanding man and will be missed. He loved life and lived it to its fullest with a positive attitude , faith, hope and love - making the world a better place. He was a son, husband, father, Grandfather, brother, Uncle and friend to many. Mike passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on the morning of May 3rd. Born in Trail to Violet Jacqueline Jeffery (nee Winship) and Albert Peter Jeffery he grew up in Victoria graduating from Esquimalt High School in 1955. From there he pursued his goal in life by enrolling in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in 1956 serving 3 years after graduation from Depot. The men of B Troop were life long brothers to Mike. He met the love of his life, Myra Jeffery (née Ehrlich) while posted in Canora, SK and they were married in 1958. Their journey took them to Edmonton and eventually returning to Mike's hometown of Victoria in 1970. He trail blazed a career as the first civilian public administrator in the RCMP (12 years) and then spent 16 years with the Ministry of Forests where he retired in 1996. Mike had a strong commitment to his community serving for 17+ years with the View Royal Fire Rescue and 6 years on the Family Court/Youth Justice Board while volunteering for many events. He was a passionate baseball player - playing semi pro, coaching and then playing for 45 years with the Oldies and Raiders. He will be remembered as a great teammate. And Mikes' story cannot be told without mentioning his love and deep bond with the Jeffery clan. He was a devoted son and a dedicated husband, taking care of his Mom and Myra when they were not capable themselves, demonstrating the strong moral and family values that defined his life. He was an inspiration to his granddaughter Taylor Jeffery, a close friend to daughter in-law Holly Jeffery and dear companion to Auburn Cowan. He was my Dad (Richard Jeffery) my hero, role model and guiding hand. I am the person I am today because of my Father. He lived life with enthusiasm, courage, humour, principle, sincerity and compassion - he was full of energy and life. On behalf of our family we invite you to join us in a Celebration of Life from 1:00pm to 3:00pm, Saturday May 14th, 4th Floor Learning and Innovation Centre, Royal Roads University, 2005 Sooke Road, Victoria (see map royalroads.ca).
