Michael Major March 13 1953 - March 15 2021 Michael worked in and thoroughly explored the coastal forests of BC. He celebrated the wonder and complexity of old growth forests, coast and sea. Michael was well known for his critical assessment and unique interpretation of forest policy, environmentalism, economic and government systems - and for his innovative proposals. He shared his ideas in writing, film and long conversations. Many people will remember the animated, stimulating discussions of salmonchanted evenings - diverse topics included music, art, science, coastal wonders, ancient history, engineering, deserts and forests, philosophy, poetry... Michael was kind and generous in supporting his neighbourhood community, artists, activists, friends and family. Born in England, Michael grew up in Vancouver and later moved to Victoria. He was predeceased by his parents, Chris and Beryl and leaves behind his siblings Janine and Neil. He will also be greatly missed by Jane, Sarah and Freyja. In lieu of flowers, please consider growing a native tree or plant in a place close to where you live, in the spirit of his life's work.
