Micheal Gilbert Mcluhan

On Tuesday, September 21st, 2021, Michael McLuhan loving husband and father to two children, passed away at the age of 74.
Michael or as he liked to be called Mike, was born in Victoria BC Canada to Winston and Mary (Paterson) McLuhan on July 22nd 1947. He enjoyed scuba diving when he was young and he then began working as a paramedic. He was a paramedic for 22 years through the BC ambulance service with his partner of many years Bob Hudson. He met his wife Leslie Longoz in Decemeber 1981. They got married on October. 9th 1982 and welcome their son Matthew on January 9th 1985 and then daughter Jessica on August 25th 1986. Mike and Leslie raised their children in Sidney BC, moved to Saanichton BC and then lived in Victoria BC. He continued his passion for helping people by working as in palative care at Gorge Road Hospital and by spending many years volunteering with the Lions food bank and the Mustard Seed. He loved talking to many different people over the years, and loved telling people his stories. He made many friends over the years and loved being a friend. He was able to walk his daughter Jessica down the aisle at her wedding on September 30th 2016.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years Leslie (Longoz) McLuhan, son Matthew, daughter Jessica, son-in-law Chris Baer, sister-in-law Julie Blakesley, sister-in-law Janet O'Reily, brother-in-law Steven Blakesley, nephew Tim Beaudoin and neice Heidi Vandenhurk.
Our appreciation to all the doctors and nurses at The Royal Jubliee Hospital and at Victoria Genereal Hospital who cared for Mike throughout his stay in the hospital. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 16th 2021 at 2pm at Gateway Baptist Church at 898 Royal Oak Ave in Victoria. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the BC Cancer Society.
