Schwartz, Nancy Joyce
December 04, 1950 – September 20, 2024
Daughter of Frank and Jean (Schwager) Caton. My wife died suddenly at the age of 73 on Friday, September 20, next to me in our dining room. She had four siblings: Linda (Richard/Ming) and John (Marie); two brothers Mike (Radka) and Gordon predeceased her. She leaves two sons and four young grandchildren – Mycroft (Irina) with children Sarah and David, and Ira (Cristina) with Caliban and Ezri – both families in Calgary.
We met in late 1969, when she was studying theatre at UVic, and we married in 1970. When we moved to Nanaimo in 1972, Nancy began taking courses at Malaspina College, eventually switching into visual arts. After we had moved back to Victoria, Nancy completed her BFA degree from UVic in 1981. Her specialty was printmaking, and there are several of her beautiful prints hanging in our house.
From there she went on to become a full time mother in raising our sons Mycroft and Ira. Nancy was a wonderful mother and continued to have great relationship with them, their spouses, and the grandchildren until her death. She loved our trips to Calgary to visit with our families.
Nancy worked with the Oak Bay Volunteers for a number of years. And she was actively engaged in a story telling group and in telling stories to school children for many years. She supported Books Over Borders (previously The Institute for Cross-Cultural Exchange) for international child literacy.
In lieu of flowers, any donation in her name to the Oak Bay Volunteers or to Books Over Borders would be appreciated.
