Patricia Summers Brown 1945-2025

In her eightieth year and surround by loved ones, Patricia left us on March 3rd. Beloved mother, sister, aunt and her favourite, Grandma. Pat leaves behind Jennifer Smith (Jeremy) and Andrew Brown (Stacey Johnston) and grandmother to Owen, Duncan, Henry and Jack. Sister to David Merriman (Pamela), Aunt to Jillian (Adam) and David (Emma) along with their families.

A baby boomer in the truest sense, Pat was born in Glasgow, Scotland on July 13th 1945 and grew up in a loving home where her love of music and laughter was developed along with younger brother David. After graduating from secretarial college, Pat worked at the BBC and eventually after their move to Toronto in 1973 with then husband Gordon, she worked at the CBC supporting the scripts for the Royal Canadian Air Farce. There was often a time or two when watching the CBC that Pat exclaimed “Oh I used to work with them”.

Pat and Gordon eventually settled in North Toronto to raise their two children. It was this neighborhood where she truly felt at home away from Scotland. Here they built a wonderful community with many friends and wonderful neighbours - still friends to this day. Glenview Presbyterian Church played an important roll in Pat’s life in multiple forms. She was an active member of the congregation and served in the Women’s Association organizing various bake sales, flower sales and the Fall Bazars. She also worked for over 20 years in the church office until her well-deserved retirement. The lifelong friendships that formed from Glenview were plentiful, as it truly was a special place for her.

Outside of work, Pat was a very active person, with a particular passion for racket sports as well as cycling and golf. Badminton and tennis were her favourites, and she enjoyed many matches at Eglinton United Badminton club and enjoyed tennis and golf with friends in Southampton, Ontario every August.

One of Pat’s favorite places was Southampton where the family spent all of August for nearly 20 years. Pat looked forward to August at “the cottage” ever year playing tennis and golf with her lifelong friends she met in Southampton. Enjoying Southampton’s famous sunsets with an ice cream cone in her hand was where she was most happy, along with her many friends.

In 2011, Pat picked up and moved across the country from Toronto to Victoria BC to be closer to her daughter as well as the new grandkids. Being a true Scot, she always found comfort in being by the sea and greatly enjoyed her James Bay condo overlooking the ocean and the mountains. Pat was an active member at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church until she moved to the Cridge Seniors Centre. There at the Cridge, she loved her new community, friends and staff and often felt that was her second home.

Pat will be missed by so many, and will be fondly remembered for her kindness, empathy, and witty sense of humour. ‘Wee Patti’ as she was affectionately referred to was incredibly selfless, and always put others before herself. These characteristics are only a few contributing factors to her being a great mother, wife, sister and friend to so many.

The family would like to thank Mom’s family doctor Dr. Stephanie Mancini who supported Mom with care and compassion with Mom’s final years of Lewy Body Dementia.

A memorial service will take place on June 14th in Victoria BC at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 680 Courtney St, at 11 am followed by a light reception. A second memorial will take place in Toronto at Glenview Presbyterian Church, 1 Glenview Ave. on September 6th at 11:00 am with a light reception following.
