It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Patricia Eileen Smith. Patricia (Tricia) passed away peacefully on February 27, 2023.
Patricia was born in Winnipeg on September 28, 1943, to parents Donald and Madge Murphy. The family remained in Winnipeg for a short period but soon relocated to Toronto and ultimately Port Arthur, (Thunder Bay) Ontario.
After obtaining her nursing degree from St. Joseph’s Hospital in Port Arthur, Patricia worked at this medical facility for a brief period before meeting her soon-to-be husband, Barry Smith.
Barry and Patricia were married in Thunder Bay in 1965 and soon after relocated to Winnipeg where she continued her nursing career at St. Boniface Hospital. Their love of dogs resulted in Barry and Patricia adding two Samoyed dogs into their lives and for a period of time Barry and Patricia were involved with the Canadian Kennel Club as well as showing and breeding of Samoyed dogs.
In 1970, Barry and Tricia moved to British Columbia. First to Galiano Island for several years where they were owner/operators of Galiano Lodge and then ultimately, they moved to Victoria where Patricia continued working in her health care profession as a nurse at Royal Jubilee Hospital. Over her nursing career, Patricia worked in the Emergency, Surgical, Neonatal and Psych. Departments.
Patricia is survived by her three children: Douglas (Joelle), Gregory (Bonnie) and Andrea. She is also survived by her five grandchildren: Tyler, Spencer, Haley, Justin, and Emily.
