Pearl Evelyn Newfeld, a woman of boundless love, unwavering kindness, and an infectious zest for life, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2024, at the age of 78. Pearl was born on June 8, 1945, in Winkler, Manitoba to Margaret and Abram Neufeld. In 1958, Pearl and her mother relocated to Winnipeg, where she attended Gorden Bell High School. In time, she gave birth to her first son Shawn. She married Allan Dahlberg in 1966 and shortly after she began her life’s journey to the west as they moved to Edmonton, Alberta where Angela and David were born. In 1971, they settled in Jasper, Alberta where she worked as a legal secretary, developed a love for the outdoors, and became an advocate for our environment. She loved to swim, ski, skate, and encouraged her children also to lead an active life. She played back catcher for the softball team, the Jasper Joker’s. In fact, her jacket, along with her team’s picture, are on display as part of the town’s history in the Jasper museum.
In 1981, Pearl moved her children to Victoria, British Columbia where she enjoyed a fulfilling career in adult education, as well as cultivating many lifelong friendships. It was here she was able to develop her passion for music, singing, and live theatre. She performed in a choir, as well as in several musical productions with her granddaughter, Taelor. She shared her love of art with her grandson Caleb and made sure they had regular heart-to-heart visits. Pearl showed extraordinary love for her entire extended family. She made every effort to attend their important life events or send a thoughtful handmade card. Even as she got older, her adventurous spirit led her to travel extensively, learn to play the ukulele, and ping pong, acquiring precious friends along the way.
Pearl is survived by her sister Marlene, sister-in-law Anne, dear friend Ben, children Shawn (Lori), Angela (Reggie), David, grandchildren Caleb and Taelor, and scores of nieces and nephews along with their families. She was predeceased by her brothers Harvey, Ron, and Irvin, and special friend Peter.
Though Pearl’s physical presence is gone, her spirit lives on in the hearts of all who loved her. She showed us how to live a life filled with love, laughter, and a passion for all that is good. She will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.
A celebration of Pearl's life will be held on Thursday, May 30th, 1 pm at the Mary Winspear Center in Sidney, BC. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to a charity of your choice in her honor.
Pearl Evelyn Newfeld will be remembered for her warmth, her generosity, and her unwavering love for her family and friends. She leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that will continue to inspire all those who were fortunate enough to have known her. Her absence will be deeply felt, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were touched by her presence. Rest in peace, Pearl.
