Peter Thomas Midgley

d. August 19, 2019

Born and raised in Penticton, Peter went on to attend UBC, where he met and married Sheila in1972.  He started his working career as a student doing mineral exploration. After graduating he went on to become a consultant with Canadian Resourcecon, before joining up with Discovery Capital and finishing his career with PNG.
Peter was truly a Renaissance man who throughout his career was regularly, and incorrectly, referred to as a geologist, economist, scientist and engineer - and he was all of those things as his dedication and research thoroughness resulted in an incredible depth of knowledge - but he graduated with a Masters of Science from UBC's School of Planning.  His thesis, on Environmental Impacts of Large Dams, was a precursor of Peter's lifelong commitment to the environment, in both words and actions.
He was a quiet man with a very subtle sense of humour and regardless of what he was working on his passion for perfection shone through.  In the 1980's Sheila introduced him to boating and within minutes behind the helm, he had charts flying around and was totally in control.  This led them to homestead in the Gulf Islands where they built a home, filled with music, good wine and an open door for friends.  Kingfisher Point is truly a reflection of Peter's talents.
Peter was a valued and trusted volunteer who always contributed his time and expertise to the community.   His warm smile, gentle laugh and his generous help and assistance to his neighbours and friends will be greatly missed.
Peter leaves behind Sheila, his very best friend and loving partner of 47 years, his Black Labrador, Bentley, his favorite "niece" Marea and many wonderful memories.

If you would like to make a donation in Peter's name, he appreciated the work of the BC and Alberta Guide Dogs (bcandalbertaguidedogs.com) or Pacific Assistance Dogs Society (PADS.ca).  As per Peter's wishes there will be no service.
