Johnson, Robert (Bob), F.H.
August 12, 1941 - May 8, 2024
Bob passed away peacefully on his own terms surrounded by love at the Royal Jubilee Hospital (RJH) in Victoria, B.C. He was born in Ottawa to parents Delta and Dr. L.P.V. Johnson. He is survived by Shirley Johnson, his wife of fifty-eight years, his sisters Elaine McLay and Elise Johnson of Sooke and seven nieces and nephews.
Bob’s early years in Florida, England, Syria and Montana gave him a love of travel and adventure. He built a wonderful 32-foot powerboat in Mill Bay and Bob and Shirley explored the coastal waters for decades. Travels to Turkey, Italy, Singapore, Greece, England and Scotland were a great joy.
Bob loved jazz, Roman ruins, science fiction, international politics and sunsets. He seldom missed a sunset, preferably celebrated with a fine Martini.
“And so it goes.” - Kurt Vonnegut
Immense gratitude to Dr. Seto from the RJH Cancer Clinic who gave Bob an extra decade of wonderful life, and to Dr. Nancy Humber who helped Bob when his life was ending.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the B.C. Cancer Foundation would be appreciated. Following his wishes, there will be no service. Bob’s wish was for a family graveside gathering.
