ROBERT EDWARD CARLE GRIFFIN
Nov. 4, 1937 — Oct. 17, 2023
With heavy hearts, the family of Robert Edward Carle Griffin announces his passing Tuesday, Oct. 17, at Victoria General Hospital. Bob, as he was lovingly known, was surrounded by his children and grandchildren when he succumbed peacefully to his short battle with illness, 18 days before his 86th birthday.
Bob is predeceased by his parents Fred and Helen (Thomson) Griffin, and his sister Helen Cook, but he leaves behind many family members and friends. He is survived by his children Robbie, Kevin (Michelle), Jason (Barbara), Tara (Ian), and Melanie (Steve), plus grandchildren Dylan, Brittney, Jamie, Danielle, Emma, and great-grandson Lennon.
Bob had spent the past six and a half years living at Kiwanis Village in Victoria, B.C. — after decades living in North Vancouver’s East-of-Seymour region — where he could be closer to family, and enjoy his quieter years with his “Griffin girls”. Bob was a lifetime accountant and salesman, and was very proud of being the first volunteer taxman at his beloved Kiwanis village. He helped almost every resident there. Bob will be remembered for his warm heart, generous spirit, love of his family, passion for animals, and all things sports (especially the Canadiens and Yankees). He was proud to be celebrating 45 years of sobriety and living a healthy lifestyle.
Bob was born Nov. 4, 1937 in Montréal, Quebec, where he grew up, attended Verdun secondary school, and was active in playing fastball. He met and married Carol James, and they had a son Robbie. He later met and married Dolores LeBlanc, then, with her and her two sons, infamously drove across the country to Vancouver in the summer of 1969. They had their two daughters there.
Bob often spoke fondly of 1970’s family vacations to Florida to visit his sister and her two children Dawn and Warren, as well as the family road trip to Anaheim, California and Disneyland — both in his gold Plymouth station wagon. Bob built a lifetime of family, friendships, and memories for all whose lives he touched.
Bob enjoyed coaching his boys’ youth baseball teams, and he was a fixture at a couple of White Spot restaurants, in North Vancouver and Victoria, later in life, and made many friends at those venues, as well as at the complexes where he lived.
Bob will be sadly missed by many, but never forgotten.
